Sometimes you live in a place that isn't really suited for surviving long term. If this is you, it's better to have a back up plan in place. Know your area, and know the people around you. If you don't think you'll be safe staying where you are when SHTF then you need a place to go.

The most obvious choice is a large chunk of wooded land, preferably in the mountains. Of course, not everyone can afford that so you have to plan a little more carefully. Grab a map and write down a few places that might be safe, or link up with one of your prepper buddies and roll with them. There is strength in numbers, but keep in mind that more people means more mouths to feed, so make sure you pull your weight!
